Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) has organised a further tandem skydiving event following the huge success of the first one in October, which raised £32,000 for the charity. RDA members and supporters will be taking to the skies again on 14 March 2010 in the hope of raising even more funds. As part of the charity’s 40th Anniversary celebrations, the initial event was a big hit with all who took part, and organisers are urging anyone with an adventurous spirit to have a go.
“It was a truly amazing experience,” says RDA Chief Executive, Ed Bracher, who overcame a fear of heights for his first ever skydive in October. “I would encourage anyone to try it. We aim to raise even more money for the next two events – money which will go directly to helping us provide more opportunities for therapy, achievement and enjoyment to people with disabilities through horse riding.”
Now in its 40th year, RDA has a network of over 500 groups throughout the UK, providing opportunities to ride and carriage drive to over 26,500 people with disabilities. One rider’s parents recently wrote to say:
“We have found that riding has had a positive impact on George's posture. He has diplegic cerebral palsy and due to his low muscle tone he tends to lean forward when sat down. However, when in the saddle he always seems to sit "bolt upright" which is great to see. Riding has turned our daily hour-long physio session from a constant nag and George finding ways to cheat to an absolute pleasure as George enjoys his horse riding so much he does not realise that it is physio!”
